Rights for whales - Moananui Sanctuary
Imagine: A ship rams a whale and then simply leaves it to bleed to death. A whaler harpoons a pregnant mother. Now imagine something radical: those responsible are brought to justice – because whales have rights.
This isn't just a pipe dream. Indigenous leaders from the Pacific Islands are working with their governments to pass a law that recognizes whales as legal persons – so that humans can represent them in court and ensure that those who harm them are held accountable.
And now they're asking the world to support them. In just one week, they'll launch their historic campaign at the UN Ocean Conference in France – and if we're loud enough, we can help them convince even more countries to join in. Add your name now and we'll help Indigenous leaders bring this vision to the global stage – and directly to the highest decision-makers.
